I/DESiGN PROJECT WORKSHEETS and NOTEBOOKS

It is very effective to provide students with worksheets or notebooks which are divided into sections labeled according to the model. The student can use the worksheet to informally note the information involved in each way of thinking as the lesson develops (These notes can be edited by the student later to provide a more formal response to the project or lesson).
When the model is first introduced it is best to present each way of thinking in the sequence indicated by the model so that students can see that the information established in a preceding section is needed by the subsequent section.
However, it is not necessary to stay in any particular sequence during a project. (As students become involved in a project they will frequently jump from one way of thinking to another - the problem becomes one of helping them to recognize the way of thinking they are focused on at the moment and to note its results in the appropriate section.) A description of the model (from section 2) and an introduction to its use can be included for reference on the the worksheet or in a notebook or portfoloio.
